Law & Order

Farmers face challenges such as limited arable land, harsh weather, lack of storage facilities, outdated farming techniques, and limited access to modern agricultural technology.
Traditional glacier-fed channels, springs, and river irrigation systems are used. Modern drip and pipe irrigation are also being introduced for efficient water use.
Due to its unique climate, fertile valleys, and glacier-fed irrigation, Gilgit-Baltistan produces high-quality, organic fruits, especially apricots and cherries, which are exported nationally and internationally.
The major crops include wheat, maize, barley, and potatoes. In addition, fruits like apricot, cherry, apple, mulberry, and grapes are widely cultivated and are a key part of the region’s economy.
